Here is one of those vintage recipes I found in some old recipes. This is the original recipe without anything changed. These beans are great for a potluck or bbq get together.
Ingredients
| 1 | regular sized can pork and beans |
| 1 | can butter beans |
| 1 | can kidney beans |
| 1/2 lb | lean burger or ground sirloin |
| 1/2 lb | sliced bacon, diced |
| 1 c | chopped onion |
| 1/2 c | open pit barbecue sauce, original flavor, no substitutions |
| 1/2 c | ketchup |
| 1/2 c | sugar |
| 1/2 c | packed brown sugar |
| 2 Tbsp | prepared mustard |
| 2 Tbsp | molasses |
| 1/2 tsp | chili powder |
| pepper to taste |
Directions
In a large skillet, cook bacon, beef, and onion until browned. Transfer to a large bowl. Do not drain. Add remaining ingredients and stir well. Turn out into a greased 9x13 baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake 350 degrees for 50 minutes...until bubbly.
NOTE: Easily doubled. However, just add 1T more of molasses and prepared mustard instead of doubling those. Use a lasagna pan or one of those aluminum throw aways which holds a doubled recipe nicely.
