Rag Rug

My kitchen rug or mat has seen better days. Being we don't have much money I opted to make my own and it's coming out really nice. It's made from old sheets and clothes. With a big thick crochet hook I am just crocheting it all together. This one is actually going where the kitchen and livingroom meet up. I started a blue and green one from DH old jeans which will stand up more to kitchen wear. Just by the sink. I will post a pic when it's finished.

Homemade Playdoh

When I was a kid I loved Playdoh. I even remember the smell of it. I had the one that you could make the spagetti out of. And the one where you made hair. Well here is a homemade recipe for Playdoh for you kids or grandkids. Have them help you make it too!


Playdoh ( Homemade )

    * ½ cups Salt
    * 1 cup Flour
    * 2 teaspoons Cream Of Tartar
    * 1 teaspoon Alum
    * 1 cup Water
    * 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil

Preparation Instructions

Mix everything in a 3-quart non-stick pan. Cook over medium heat until the mixture is stiff.

Then, place mixture on a smooth surface to cool and knead it for a minute when it’s cool enough to handle.

Store mixture in a pint size container.

This makes a great gift that keeps little hands busy. And the Alum can be found in the spice section of your grocery store.

I am making headway in claiming back the spare room as my craft room. With so many other things going on its becoming a slow journey. But I am excited that it will be done. I have started to collect fabric and when I get this room organized this will be my first project. I would like to share a video from Cooking and Crafting. Crochet Time!

I have to say I am not a crazed crochet fanatic. I learned how to crochet in grade school from one of my friends and loved it. But it was only a single stitch and that was that for a while. I didn't pick up crocheting again until my Mom had wanted to learn. She knew how to knit which she learned from her grandmother. SO I taught her the simple single stitch I had learned many years ago. But something happened along the way. Mom out did me in the crochet department lol. She learned other stitches! Ones I didn't know. Since she knew how to read patterns for her knitting the crochet patterns were easy for her. So thanks to youtube I found a great channel which taught me so much more. The Art of Crochet.




This above video is one of the Granny Squares you can learn. I did a blanket for my Mom for Christmas one year and just made it a big granny square and added a popcorn stitch to it.

The first picture shows how vibrant the colors really are. My mom has always made everyone else blankets and I had thought this time I'm making one for her. She loved it!

The New Paint !!

Here is our Kitchen before I decided to test the new color.

After receiving my free sample of Valspar paint I decided to paint a few areas in my kitchen. I thought just painting a small little section on a wall just wouldn"t help me decide if I would really like this much of a drastic change in color. I have to say with the cabinets it looks really nice. ( Sorry about the clutter, not much counter space. ) I did not get very close to the cabinets or the counters. I just wanted to see overall how the paint would look.

And this was the free sample kit that I got which I must say was really cute.

 So after a few days of getting used to the new color we are giving it a thumbs up!!! Next...buy a gallon of this color and finish the whole kitchen.

Kitchen Redo

Besides cooking, doing genealogy and going to flea markets and thrift stores I also like free samples. One of the ones I will be receiving soon is a paint sample. It's in boxwood which is a green. Not a light green. And I am going to see if that will look good in the kitchen. If I like it then on to Walmart with a sample tile of the color ( which they are sending too ) and get a gallon or 2. I really think this color will be really pretty and will be a nice change. I also think with some searching online I can redo the kitchen for very little. In the next few days I will be doing a before and then taking pictures as I go along. Not sure how long this project will take but I am so looking forward to it.
