Yummy Reuben Sammy ( no recipe )
Visiting my aunt this last time we stopped in St Augustine for lunch. She was told by her friend to check this place out and funny is that we had been here before. The site where Meehan’s sits was originally used for construction storage during the building of the infamous Castillo de Marcos (located just 150 feet North of the restaurant). Meehan’s was once the private home of William Diskmuits, and was built in 1917. Mr. Diskmuits was the first president of Florida National Bank. Most recently, Meehans’ was known as Tavern On The Bay, which is where we had eaten before. We sat upstairs inside and had a great view of the water and the Lion's Bridge. We both decided to have their Reuben sandwich which I have to say was the best one I have ever had. The cornbeef was sliced thin and was so moist. It was served in a little basket on marbled rye and there was alot of meat on it. You could have made 2 more sandwiches! It was served with a pickle and I had fried which were tossed in a parmesan cheese and herb mixture. The fries were good but they need more salt. I had sweat tea with my meal and it was so filling and so good. We will definetly be eating here again. Just hope it lasts because its really good food and nice atmosphere.
